CINQUE TERRE

CINQUE TERRE

“I terrazzamenti liguri, fatti di pietre e ulivi e braccia d’uomo e colline a picco sul mare, sono un’opera di storia e civiltà altrettanto importante che le piramidi o le cattedrali del medioevo.”
F. Caramagna

In 1997 Cinque Terre were awarded with the title of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and are now National Park and Marine Protected Area.

A unique environment that develops along a narrow strip of coast embedded in the mountainous ridges sloping on the sea. Kilometres of the characteristic dry-stone walls built to create terraces for the cultivation of grape wines, medieval villages, sanctuaries, panoramic footpaths; this is the enchanted setting of the “Cinque Terre” whose centuries-old isolation has helped to create a unique place of unspoilt beauty.

Starting from the Hotel (west to east) here are the Cinque Terre.

VERNAZZA

Founded around the year 1000, thanks to the small natural port – unique in the Cinque Terre – it is the town that better preserves the appearance of a seaside village.

Like Riomaggiore, Vernazza also develops along a small river that is now covered. Steep and very narrow paths descend towards the main road, which leads to the square in front of the marina.

The presence of valuable architectural elements, such as loggias, arcades and portals testifies the former higher living standard of Vernazza if compared to the other villages.
